The human body is powerful. In fact, your body can make most of the fats it needs. When it comes to omega-3 fatty acids; however, you must get those from your food. These types of fats are classified as essential fats. Good sources of omega-3’s include fish, walnuts, flax seeds and oil, and leafy veggies. Why are omega-3’s so essential to your diet? They affect the function of the cell membranes throughout the body. Studies have shown that omega-3 fats help prevent heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers. In addition, they can lower blood pressure, heart rate, improve the function of blood vessels, relieve inflammation, and can help control lupus, eczema, and arthritis. The American Heart Association recommends eating fish at least twice a week.
